Rain is in the forecast for Kaua‘i today, Tuesday, Nov. 23, but not the heavy rains predicted for the Big Island and some of the other islands, as a Kona storm moves across the chain, a forecaster said.
While there were predictions that parts of the state could get three to four inches of rain in a short time today or later this week, causing potential flooding conditions like those that pounded Manoa on O‘ahu on and near the campus of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, no such predictions were made for Kaua‘i, according to Bob Farrell, National Weather Service lead forecaster.
He does predict Kaua‘i will be doused with up to an inch of rain, possibly, today, with the potential for heavier rains tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 24, he said.
“It may or may not reach Kaua‘i,” he said of the Kona storm moving across the chain. If it does, the island will get some heavy showers and possibly thunderstorms. The forecast is for partly cloudy skies and a few showers in the morning today, and isolated, heavy showers and some thunderstorms in the afternoon, associated with the storm, he said.
An upper-level, low-pressure system moving eastward is the culprit, he said.
More rain may be in the forecast for tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 24, he said.
