A 61-year-old Kapa‘a man was found unresponsive in The Landing Pad parking lot at Princeville Airport early yesterday morning. The man, later identified as Rufus Kaui Jr., was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, county officials said.
According to Kaua‘i Police Department officials, a report of the unresponsive man was made at 1:21 a.m.
An off-duty firefighter had been at the scene and was performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) when a KPD officer arrived. The officer joined in on the CPR until Kaua‘i Fire Department and American Medical Response personnel reached the scene. No cause of death has been determined, and there are no signs of foul play, officials said.
