Irons is stuck on the sand in Spain
MUNDAKA, SPAIN — The Association of Surfing Professionals Billabong Pro continued its waiting game for the fifth straight day at Bakio Beach, where Hanalei product Andy Irons is trying to continue his domination of the Men’s World Championship Tour.
Irons, in search for his third consecutive title, is due to surf Brazilian Armanodo Daltro in the third round when the competition resumes.
Yesterday, organizers relocated with the hope an increasing swell would be available, but unfortunately only strong winds presented themselves.
Scores of enthusiastic locals came out to see their favorite pro surfers, and utilized the opportunity to pose for photos and get their autographs. Unfortunately a complete lack of surf ruled out the option of even an Expression Session to entertain he crowd with.
Contest director Craig Sage explained, “The weather patterns are looking promising for later in the week, and we still have plenty of time. It’s unfortunate we couldn’t do anything today, with the crowd support here at Bakio, but you need waves to surf on.”
The contest waiting period ends October 15.
