Matsuo (Charles) Maeda
Matsuo (Charles) Maeda of Lihu‘e, died Sept. 28, 2004, at his home at the age of 84.
Born Aug. 8, 1920, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired inspector for the State government.
Preceded in death by his daughter: Lorraine (Clifford) Fuchigami of Lanai, he is survived by his wife: Hatsuyo Ishii Maeda of Lihu‘e; two sons: Wallace Maeda of Aiea and Larry (June) maeda of Aiea; one daughter; Doris (Rod Daligcon) Maeda of Lihu‘e; five sisters: Florence K. Honda of Honolulu, Tamae (Masayuki) Higashi of Hanama‘ulu; Matsuyo Seki of Lihu‘e, Myra Koide of Honolulu and Edith (Ken) Abe of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 4, at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission at 9:30 a.m. services at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
The family asks that flowers be omitted and suggests casual attire. Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Gloria McElgunn Duarte
Gloria Eve McElgunn Duarte of Waimea, died at Waimea Canyon on Sept. 24, 2004 at the age of 76.
Born in Canada on Sept. 29, 1928, she was known as “The Tax Lady” and owned Westside Cantina.
She is survived by three sons: John Edward McElgunn of Big Sur, Calif., Michael Shawn McElgunn of Kekaha and Patrick Leo McElgunn of Bandon, Ore.; daughter, Dawn Kana McElgunn of Maui; and two grandchildren. Friends may visit with the family from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Waimea United Church of Christ; service at 3 p.m. Aloha attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
