KALAHEO – Tiffany Ikeda-Simao and Codie Yamauchi each scored a goal for the Lihu‘e Green to take a 2-0 halftime lead during the AYSO U19 Coed game played Saturday at the Kalawai Park.
But, the players in red were not to be denied as they came back in the second half led by forward Melia Prinzing who took a shot that soared above the jump save of Lihu‘e goalie K.C. Gaitos in the final quarter.
Chasing a digit, the red warriors weren’t done yet as they capitalized on Gaitos’ coming out of the goal mouth only to have Fabio Villa sweep in from the leftside for an uncontested goal.
Despite strong defensive jockeying and an attempt to get a lead, the contest finished with both squads tied, 2-2.
On the second field at Kalawai, the girls in pink from Hanalei were shut down by the Kalaheo Kolohe, 3-0 in a Girls Under 14 contest.
Britney Gardner led the Kalaheo offensive effort with two of the three goals scored while Mana Sutton accounted for the final score, Gardner opening the scorebooks in the first half while Sutton closed the pages with a second-half goal.
