Malia Manuel surfed her way to a first-place finish in the girls division and took home the second-place slot in the menehune division to highlight the first contest of the season for HSF/YMCA of Kaua‘i, held at PK’s from September 18-19. The contest was sponsored by Progressive Expressions and Billabong.
Other notables included Travis Smith, who won the boys 14-and-under bodyboard contest over Etienne Trillo. The Junior 15-and-over competition went to Cory Mira, who out surfed Jeremy Ferguson for the title.
Keola Carreira knocked off Manuel, denying her from a second win in the menehune surfing division.
Aaron Swanson and Alex Smith finished one-two in the boys competition. Meanwhile, Aaron Hacker took the junior men’s crown over Sebastian Zietz. In the men’s contest, it was Sean McCoy with the top score, followed by Nathan Rex.
Jeremy Doubt won the G.I.B. 4-A contest over Max Medeiros and in the senior men’s competition, Les Tabuchi got the win over Craig Balmores.
