LIHU‘E — Despite wet conditions, the Kaua‘i High School boys (1057) and the Kapa‘a High School girls (989) were right on target, en route to opening round victories in KIF air riflery last Thursday at Kaua‘i High School.
Red Raider Marc Shibata nailed the top scores for the boys side and Warrior shooter, Brittney Sutton was the top performer in the girls contest.
Shibata’s total score of 230 was followed by Kapa‘a’s Reyn Mossman, who came away with a total of 227. Kaua‘i’s Dustin Russell followed Mossman with a 221.
Sutton’s 210 and Kaua‘i’s Ka‘iulani Sheldon, who scored a 208 were the two top performers for the girls competition. Another Warrior, Gemmalyn Catbagan played a key role in the girls win, as she shot a 206, which was good for third-overall in the girls joust.
Meanwhile, out in Waimea, the westsiders swept both the girls (1175) and boys (1094) matches.
Menehune Sharla Shimono was on her game with a score of 246, which was good enough for the top total girls score.
Shimono was followed by teammates, Sheila Ramos (242), and Ashley Shimono.
For the boys, Waimea’s Chris Aguilar showed that he’s just as good at shooting as he is in volleyball by getting the top total score (250) for the boys.
Aguilar’s teammates, Kori Sakahashi (246) and Tyren Sakuda (204) picked up the second and third place spots.
