David Kaona III
David “Sonny” Kawika Kaona III of Hanalei, died Aug. 7, 2004, at his home at the age of 70.
Born May 27, 1934, in Honolulu, he was a laborer for the County of Kauai.
He is survived by two daughters: Caridyn Colburn and Davilyn Hoomanawanui; one son: Shawn Strickland; three brothers: Clarence Kaona, Henry Kaona and Kenneth Kaona; two sisters: Diana Spencer and Kele Momi Lopez; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at Hanalei Canoe Club with Memorial services celebrated at 11 a.m. Scattering will take place at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Glenn Hirashima
Glenn Tatsuichi Hirashima of Kapa‘a died Sept. 15, 2004, at the age of 76.
Born Jan. 7, 1928, on Kaua‘i, he was a tour bus driver.
He is survived by his wife: Marjorie Hirashima of Kapa‘a; two sons: Steven (Donna) Hirashima of Honolulu and David Hirashima of Kapa‘a; one daughter: Diane (John P.H.) Kauo of Kapa‘a; one sister: Miyuki Hirashima of Lihu‘e and two grandchildren; Taylor and Brooke Kauo of Kapa‘a.
Friends may call at the family residence in Kapa‘a from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted. Scattering of ashes will be private on a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Yukichi Gushiken
Yukichi Gushiken of Koloa, Kauai, died at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on Sept. 14, 2004, at the age of 87. Born in Koloa, Kauai on Oct. 12, 1916, he was an administrator with Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by son, Maurice (Cindy) Gushiken of Koloa; daughter, Marcia (Ronald) Kodani of Kaneohe; four grandchildren; two sisters, Harue Oshiro of Waipahu and Chiyo (Sensuke) Ueunten of Kalaheo; numerous nieces and nephews. Service were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Jonathan Kawika Kekahu
Jonathan Kawika Kekahu, 58, of Anahola, died Sept. 20. A self-employed farmer, he was born in Hanapepe on Jan. 26, 1946. He is survived by his wife, Lillian H. Kekahu, and three daughters: Melissa (Robert) Moody of Anahola; Kealoha (Tony Bonilla) Gonsalves of Anahola; and Wende (Danny) Haskell of California. Also surviving are sisters Rowena Smith of Anahola and RhodaAnn (Reuben) Simeona of Hilo, Hawai‘i; grandchildren Xie-Ann Rogers, Kaia Moody, William Valente-Gonsalves, Tyson Valente-Gonsalves and Alexis Haskell; uncles Moke, Kapu and Panaewa; aunty Kawelo; numerous cousins and pigeon fanciers; nieces Ruby, Merlene, Robin, Ilima and Renny, and nephews John John, Charles, Danny, Aaron, Jay and Keola.
Services are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23, with visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m., at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Lawa‘i. A private burial will be held. The family suggests casual attire.

Kaname Shido
Kaname Shido, 90, of Kapa‘a, died at his home on Sept. 20. The retired proprietor of Shido Store House of Fabrics, he was born in Kapa‘a Sept. 17, 1914.
He is survived by his wife, Fusako Hashimoto Shido of Kapa‘a; son, Jeffrey (Faith) Shido of Honolulu; daughter, Merrily (Gary) Hall of Kalaheo; sister, Mae (Jack) Doi of Wailua Homesteads; brothers Clifford (Jean) Shido of Honolulu and Shigeru Shido of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Kapa‘a.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
