Reigning world surfing champion Andy Irons has suffered his worst result of the season after he was eliminated in the second round of the world championship tour event by highly-rated American wildcard Dane Reynolds. Irons, the current ratings leader halfway through the year, will have to settle for an equal 33rd finish after being eliminated with a total heat score of 14.60 to Reynolds’ 15.50.
Aussie surfers have faired well in round two with Byron Bay’s Danny Wills, former world champion Mark Occhilupo, West Australian Taj Burrow, Gold Coast’s Joel Parkinson and Luke Egan all progressing with wins into round three of the event.
The seventh stop of 12 on the WCT is being held at the famed Trestles break – regarded as the best on mainland America.
