North Shore meeting
Shame on Tom Finnegan and TGI. What relevance is the race of individuals who show up at a community meeting? (TGI front page 9/10) The implication of your statement is that because they are not a “diverse” crowd, they are not representative of the island, so their views have less standing. (You do not address that Caucasians may well constitute a majority in the North Shore.)
Can you imagine the reaction on the Mainland if a journalist pointedly and pointlessly noted that attendees at s community meeting were mostly black, but that blacks don’t make up the majority of the larger population? The editor would probably send the journalist to racial sensitivity training.

Akaka Bill
There is no political relationship with Native Hawaiians and the U.S. Federal Government. That’s what the Akaka bill is supposed to create – a political relationship.
If that means there is no political relationship now, then how has it been lawfully possible for the U.S. to lay claim to Hawaiian land, to buy and sell Hawaiian land? Or lawfully possible to prosecute and deny rights under U.S. law to – Kanaka Maoli?
Answer: It is not lawfully possible.
Why does Senator Inouye push for Federal Recognition of “Native Hawaiians” when he knows, first hand, how bad and damaging it has been for American Indians?
Answer: Because then it will become lawfully possible for the U.S. to do what they have been unlawfully doing for the past 111 years.
Will the Akaka bill protect Hawaiian programs and rights as they claim it will?
Answer: The bill does not claim to keep anything protected for “Native Hawaiians” and the sponsors of the bill will tell you they have no guarantees.
Then what will the Akaka bill protect?
Answer: It will protect United States interests and their citizens from being accused of theft and other human rights, violations against Kanaka Maoli. And Senator Inouye and others will continue to have job security as ‘state’ officials’.
Solution: Kill It.
