In less than a month, Kaua‘i’s very own amateur surfing magazine hits stores. To be exact, October 1 is the day that Hawai‘i’s newest surf magazine will be available to the public.
Nalu Underground, the only amateur publication has high praises from its publisher, Curt Smith.
“I got chicken skin just looking at the finishing product, it’s a magazine where quality and not quantity is the key,” Smith said.
At Nalu Underground’s release party on Saturday at Kilohana, practically every surfer on the island and from around the state dressed up for the black tie event.
Even Bethany Hamilton made time out of her busy schedule to attend the party.
Curt also noted that Nalu Underground’s mission statement is to promote the betterment of amateur surfing in Hawai‘i/Mainland.
The quarterly publication will showcase some of the nation’s most extreme boardriding action by amateur surfers in Hawai‘i and on the Mainland.
Nalu’s goal is to focus on the amateur sufer and they plan to interview top professionals who will share life skills, and the necessary tools and advice needed to become a better surfer and competitor.
In Nalu, you’ll also find stories of true watermen, top amateurs, and people who contribute to the surfing community.
