Today, Tuesday, Sept. 7, an island-wide recruiting drive for new members of the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council Kaua‘i troops, packs, posts and other entities will be held.
The events are from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Kapa‘a Middle School cafeteria, Wilcox Elementary School cafeteria and Waimea Canyon School, and from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. Boy Scouting is for youths from 7 to 18 years old. The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America — incorporated on Feb. 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916 — is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.
Further, Scout leaders offer young people responsible fun and adventure; instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law; train young people in citizenship, service, and leadership; and serve America’s communities and families with quality, values-based programs.
