Volunteer instructor courses are planned later this month for those wishing to become American Red Cross-certified instructors.
Participants must attend every session in order to gain certification, and the dates are as follows: Friday, Sept. 17, from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 23, from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 24, from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There is a charge of $185 to attend training, and scholarships are available to those who qualify.
Each year, the American Red Cross teaches lifesaving skills to nearly 12 million people, said Alfred Darling, American Red Cross county executive director.
“But we don’t do it alone,” he said. It’s possible only through the help of people willing to take time to be trained and offer their services as instructors. Instructors of Red Cross programs demonstrate a sincere concern for others’ safety, and make commitments to making health and safety a priority, he said.
Red Cross instructors are members of a select group of trained individuals who reflect the standards and ideals of the Red Cross, Darling explained.
As an instructor, you gain the opportunity to use your lifesaving skills and experience to give back to your community while building your résumé. Call Darling, 245-4919, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., to enroll, or for more information.
