Coralyn Murayama took the All-Around Cowgirl title for the fifth year in a row in the Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association 2004 series. Murayama scored high in barrel racing, steer undecorating, and dally team roping (heading).
Reserve All-Around honors went to Roseanne Shimogawa, who excelled in breakaway roping and also as a dally team heeler.
Murayama and Shimogawa will compete against top cowgirls from all around the islands at the Third Annual State Championship Rodeo on Sunday, September 19 at CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu.
The championship rodeo is part of the Aloha Festivals and begins with a grand opening ceremony at 10 a.m.
Featured events are barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway and dally team roping, goat tying, steer undecorating, and calf-mugging.
Admission is free and there will be food and craft booths on the hillside overlooking the CJM arena. Everyone is invited to bring the family and enjoy the action, as some of Hawai‘i’s finest cowgirls compete for prizes, trophy saddles, and belt buckles.
The event is scheduled as a highlight of the 2004 Aloha Festivals, sponsored by Bank of Hawai‘i and American Express, along with the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority and the YMCA.
