Last KAGRA rodeo a success

There was close competition right down to the last hoof print at the final rodeo in the 2004 Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association series on Sunday, August 22, at the CJM arena.
The excitement continues on September 19, at the Third Annual Aloha Festivals State Championship Rodeo. KAGRA is hosting the event at CJM Country Stables. The action will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the Grand Entry ceremony. Admission is free and everyone is invited to cheer on their favorite Kaua‘i cowgirls and competitors from all over the State. Canoe race coming to Kaua‘i
The Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association, Aston Hotels and Resorts, and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority are proud to announce the Kendall Pacific Challenge sailing canoe festival. This will be the final race of a ten race series, which began in April.
The Hawaiian sailing canoe association begins its season on the island of Hawai‘i in April. Each month 12 Hawaiian Sailing Canoes, representing each island in the Hawaiian chain, travels virtually every channel connecting the Hawaiian Islands, ending in September on the island of Kaua‘i. 12 -6 man sailing canoes, and 6- 4 man sailing canoes will depart Nawiliwili on August 28th at 10:00 a.m. They will then paddle/sail the coast and end in Waimea in front of the Waimea plantation cottages. The first canoes are expected at 3:00 p.m.

Vulcan volleyball starts next week
HILO — The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo volleyball season begins next week with the Vulcans on the road. Second-year Head Coach Julie Morgan takes her squad to Ellensburg, Wash. for the Rodeo City Invitational, Sept. 2-4. Joining the Vulcans in the Classic are Hawaii Pacific University, Humboldt State University and Mercyhurst College. The Invitational’s field includes host Central Washington University, Western Oregon University and Northwest Nazarene University. Pacific West Conference competition starts on Oahu facing Chaminade University (Sept. 17) and Hawaii Pacific (Sept. 18). A six-match home stretch begins with Brigham Young University-Hawaii (Sept. 25) followed by Western New Mexico University (Sept. 27), Montana State University-Billings (Oct. 2), Chaminade (Oct. 8-9) and the Alumnae (Oct. 16).
The team returns to Oahu to face BYU-Hawaii (Oct. 22-23) before embarking on week-long mainland tour to face Grand Canyon University (Oct. 30), MSU-Billings (Nov. 1-2) and Western New Mexico (Nov. 5-6). The regular season ends hosting Hawaii Pacific in a pair of matches (Nov. 12-13).
All home matches are scheduled for 7:15 p.m. in the new UHH gymnasium. Ticket prices for the 2004 season are $30 (adults) and $15 (senior citizens 60-plus and students).
