A groundbreaking and blessing for the long-awaited 104-unit Villas at Puali residential development happened Thursday.
According to owner and managing member of the project, Matt Deal, the single-family-home development in Puhi comes at just the right time, when Kaua‘i needs it most.
“There is a critical housing shortage on Kaua‘i, and we are intent on offering the majority of the units to the local residents,” Deal said.
“We are providing an outstanding product for this community at a great price. I am proud to be apart of this.”
Deal lived on Kaua‘i for 25 years before moving to Colorado in 1995, where he runs Colorado-based Parkside Homes, which is affiliated with Diamond Pacific Homes, under whose name the project was created.
Diamond Pacific will be working with Century 21 All-Islands Listing Broker Ken Kubiak.
“Matt is really focused on having Kaua‘i owner-occupants find housing,” said Kubiak.
“We are providing homes for the local community at a reasonable price. It’s certainly good news for Kauaians,” Kubiak said.
Project construction management will be handled by Kenny Noe.
Deal and Noe agree that much credit for the project is owed to the cooperative efforts of local-government agencies and their administrators, such as Wallace Kudo and Caesar Portugal at the county Department of Public Works, and the innovative work in providing a new source of water by Ed Tschupp and his staff at the Department of Water. Further credit goes to Dale Kua at the county Planning Department and Mike Furukawa of Grove Farm. Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste and the county staff have been instrumental in bringing new housing for Kaua‘i’s citizens, Deal said.
The groundbreaking was blessed by Rev. Kehaunani Hill.
