Hanalei Horsehoe Pitcher’s dominate
William “Will” Brewer and Ed Constantine of Hanalei Horseshoe Pitcher’s won the top prize at Kaua‘i’s only doubles horseshoe pitching tournament.
The Hanalei crew took home the top purse of $300.00.
The dynamic duo ended the tourney with a 6-1 record and 201 total points. Second place went to Kim Lindstedt of Hanalei Horseshoe Pitcher’s and partner Daniel “Dan” Denny of Kapa‘a.
The pair finished with a 5-2 record. Both are pitchers going home with a new pair of Snyder’s Horseshoes and a cash award.
Hanalei’s James “Hawk” Hawkins and Frances “Uncle Dede” Kealoha got the third place nod with a 4-3 record and 201 total points, just outscoring Anahola Horseshoe Club’s, Clarence Gardner and partner Myron Kamoku.
Hawk and Uncle Dede came away with a cash award and a pair of Snyder’s II Horseshoes.

Hana Hou trounces Nogi’s
Glenn Nakaahiki picked the win for Hana Hou, who beat Nogi’s 10-3 in HGEA mountain ball action on August 17.
Jeffrey Iida got the loss. At the plate, Hana Hou was led by Brenn Nakaahiki (2 1B), Nelson Chiba (1 1B, 1 HR, 2 RBI), Bully Balocan (2 1B, 2 RBI), Todd Yamase (2 1B, 1 RBI), and Peter Caalim (2 1B, 1 HR, 1 RBI). Chiba drove in the winning run. Nogis bat’s were led by Ryden “Roach” Domingsel (3 1B, 1 RBI), Jeffrey Iida (2 1B), Bradley Chiba (2 1B), Bryce Nakamura (2 1B), and Marvin Mikasa (2 1B).
KFD broke through with the win against Rainbow Sports, 5-3 behind Gregg Morishige’s pitching. Lance Nakata garnered the loss. KFD got good hitting from: David Bukoski (2 1B), John Blalock (2 1B, 1 2B, and 2 RBI), and Gregg Morishige (3 1B, 1 RBI). Blalock drove in the winning run. Rainbow Sports was led by Wendell Nonaka (2 1B, 1 RBI), Ross Kagawa (2 1B, 1 RBI), and Kevin Agena (1 1B, 1 2B, and 1 RBI). Custom Limo drove past Hard Knocks, 11-1, as Didi Ibia got the win. Glenn Rodero picked up the loss.
At the plate, Custom Limo got a single, double, and an RBI from Sam Dias, 2 singles and an RBI from Kenyat Caspillo, and 2 singles and an RBI via Mike Soong. Sam Dias drove in the winning run.
Hard Knocks had four players with a hit a piece.
Longtime UH assistant dies
University of Hawai‘i volunteer assistant men’s basketball coach Art Woolaway, passed away in his home in Houston. The 92-year-old, who suffered from skin cancer for several years, has been associated with the men’s basketball program for more than 30 years. Woolaway was a mainstay on the UH bench since he was appointed to the staff by head coach Red Rocha during the 1969-70 season. Growing up in Hawai‘i, Woolaway prepped at Punahou School, where he was a four-sport athlete. He later attended Centralia Junior College in Washington before finishing his degree at the University of California. Woolaway returned to Hawai‘i where he picked up coaching football and the All-Maui track team.
