And, you just never know what kinds of goodies you find on a trip out Waimea way – Francine Oligo who works at the Big Save, Waimea, said her son Kaliko is doing well in Springfield, Missouri as an Ozark Duck (wouldn’t that be a dandy cap?).
Kaliko, who graduated as one of the top UH Hilo Vulcan baseball players, was the subject of a Missouri newspaper for his Hawaiian connection.
Hats off, too, to Waimea volleyball coach Bobby Kamakele for doing such a great job coordinating the annual Blue-White tournament that brings down some of the top high school boys players to the Clem Gomes – yes, you still have time, championships are today, Saturday! Up on the hill in Kalaheo, congratulations to Supersonic student coaches Ashley Mier and Lorraine Lagoc who got some help from Josh Bradbury in picking up the first win of their “career” by nosing out coach Brian Inouye’s Kaua‘i Fire Raiders, 24-23 in overtime! That is a testiment to the caliber of play going on at the KYBA 14 Under girls hoops tourney in Kalaheo (championship game tips off at noon) with Karen Matsumoto doing another great job of coordinating – coach Donald Shepherd of the Kalama Hills (Maui) team has a bunch of Kaua‘i connections, and they all came out to the game, too! And, since we’re cooking on the Westside, it was nice to visit with Marina Octavio (hot news – Nick Abramo is a new daddy!?!) at the Kukuiolono Snack Shop (they got nice signs at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center). And, gentlemen rules apply at golf courses so you just have to go to find out who else was out there.
