The Kyoto Tachibana High School Brass & Marching Band (KTHS) from Kyoto, Japan will perform its award-winning music in a special benefit concert for the Kauai All Island Marching Band (KAIMB) on Aug. 17 at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention
The Kyoto Tachibana High School Brass & Marching Band (KTHS) from Kyoto, Japan will perform its award-winning music in a special benefit concert for the Kauai All Island Marching Band (KAIMB) on Aug. 17 at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall at 7 pm.
Considered one of the top high school bands in the Kansai region (Osaka & western Japan), KTHS, a private school, has won numerous awards for its precision marching and highly-charged music, and was invited to perform at the 1996 World Olympics in Atlanta. The 91-member band includes 87 girls and 4 boys.
KTHS band director, Hiroyuki Tanaka has put together a special program and has invited Kaua‘i High School band director, Larry McIntosh to be a guest conductor for the Aug. 17 concert. KTHS will also appear at the Kukui Grove Center on Monday, Aug. 16 with its marching unit that will parade through the mall at 11:45 am.
The Aug. 17 concert at the Convention Hall will benefit the fundraising efforts for the 250-plus musicians and marchers representing all middle and high schools on Kaua‘i which will perform at the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, California next January.
Carol Kimura, current president of KHS Band Boosters Club (KHSBC) and KAIMB Boosters Club, and incoming KHSBC president, Robert Kawamura who are also coordinating a home-stay program for Kyoto Tachibana students are looking for host families from evening of Aug. 16 to the morning of Aug. 18.
