Finances
The County of Kaua‘i Finance Department announces that real property tax bills have been mailed to property owners or their respective servicing agents. The bills reflects the first installment of the taxes due for the 2004-2005 tax year. Payments are due by August 20, 2004.
Property owners who pay their real property taxes directly and who have not received their property tax bills should immediately inquire at the Real Property Tax collection office at 4444 Rice Street, Suite 463, Lihu‘e, or contact the county at 241-6555. Information can also be obtained at www.Kauaipropertytax.com. Payments can be made by mail, in person, or through a drop box located outside the Kapule Building. Property owners are reminded that failure to pay their taxes by the due date will result in assessment of a 10 percent penalty as well as 12 percent interest per year.
Sunshine markets
The County of Kaua‘i reminds the public that Sunshine Markets are available six days a week on the island. Here’s Tthe current Sunshine Market schedule:
Koloa: Koloa Ball Park (Knudsen), Maluhia Road, Mondays at 3 p.m.
Kalaheo: Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, Papalina Road off Kaumuali‘ i Highway, Tuesdays at 3 p.m.
Wailua Homesteads: Wailua Homesteads Park, Malu Road, Tuesdays at 3 p.m.
Kapa‘a: Kapa‘a New Town Park, Kahau Road, Wednesdays at 3 p.m.
Hanapepe: Hanapepe Park, Old Hanapepe Town, Thursdays at 3 p.m.
Kilauea: Kilauea Neighborhood Center, Keneke Street off Lighthouse Road, Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.
Lihu‘e: Vidinha Stadium, Ho‘olako Road, Fridays at 3 p.m. Kekaha: Kekaha Neighborhood Center, ‘Elepaio Road, Saturdays at 9 a.m.

Harmony Airways
Vancouver-based Harmony Airways announced that it will expand its winter schedule with more flights between Canada and Hawai‘i, including new nonstop service to Honolulu from Victoria and Toronto. The Victoria-Honolulu route, beginning in mid-December, will fly once per week; the Toronto-Honolulu nonstop will fly three times per week, beginning November 12, 2004. Harmony will also add three additional Vancouver-Honolulu flights (totaling six flights per week), and four additional Vancouver-Maui flights (totaling five flights per week), both effective in mid December. All flights will be serviced by a Boeing 757 aircraft with a 197-passenger capacity.
New Japan flights
Continental to Begin New Nagoya-Honolulu Daily Nonstop Service in December a Continental Micronesia (a subsidiary of Continental Airlines) announced that it will begin new daily nonstop service between Japan’s third most important business center, Nagoya, and Honolulu on Boeing 767-400 for the new route, configured with 35 Business/First class, and 200 coach seats.
Hotels
Statewide hotel room revenue hit a record high of $1.39 billion for first half of 2004. That’s an increase of 13 percent over the same period last year, and a full percent over the previous record set in the first half of 2000, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. Statewide hotel occupancy during the first half equaled 77.8 percent, up 7.1 percen over the same period in 2003. Average daily room rate gained 3.4 percent to $152; and revenue per available room (RevPAR) grew 21.6 percent to $118.19. Hawai‘i ranked second just behind New York City.
