So far, at least, ‘Iniki Jogger and Angel have joined the Canine Cruisers dog team to participate in the American Heart Association’s Kaua‘i Heart Walk and Health Fair 2004 this Saturday, Aug. 14.
The event begins with checkin at 6:30 a.m. at the Lihu‘e Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, when health-fair testing also begins.
At 7 a.m., costume and theme contests will be judged, and at 7:30 a.m. the warm-up and walk begin.
Heart-healthy walkers are welcome to bring their hearthealthy dogs (on leashes) along the one- and three-mile routes, said Donna Schulze, who is handling along with leaders of the American Heart Association Kaua‘i office registration of four-legged entrants.
Doggie waste bags and water bowls will be provided, as well as prizes for the dogs, Schulze said.
‘Iniki Jogger has participated in many road races with Schulze, and Angel, “daughter” or Julie and Rob Keane, is a 4- year-old golden retriever training for the Heart Walk. She came from the Kauai Humane Society, and enjoys hiking, swimming in rivers, playing with other dogs at the beach, and floating on a body board.
The community health fair offers blood-lipid testing for cholesterol and glucose, blood-pressure screening, body-fat analysis, and more.
There will be food, keiki activities including an inflatable jump-around, entertainment, food demonstrations and door prizes.
Nutrisoy, Subway, Wilcox Health, FM97 and KAWV 98.1 present the event on Kaua‘i.
