The Guava’s (Maui) got second-place going 5-1, and Papai Kou Seniors (Hawai‘i) finished in third with a 4-2 record.
Although the heavy rains dampened the field on Wednesday, the tournament resumed on Thursday with the completion of the make-up games, which were altered with rules to allow the competition to continue.
A big mahalo (thank you) to Pat and Lana Rosa (Kaua‘i coordinators), who were able to keep the tournament going and made it a successful one.
It was also good to see familiar faces at the event with the likes of Maxine Correa (former county council member), her son Kirk with his son Dallas and his two daugthers.
Kirk also noted that he was able to catch up with his old high school football coach from St. Louis High School, who played for one of the O‘ahu teams.
The food booth was also extremely busy as the West Kaua‘i contingent managed to feed a bevy of softball fans and players.
Lydia Carveiro (Richard Carveiro’s wife), along with her two daughter’s-in-law, Alison and Kathy were doing a splendid job making the air at Hanapepe Ballpark smell nice and scrumptious.
All in all, the senior state softball tourney was a huge success, thanks in part to all of the seniors and their families from all over the state.
Next year’s state tournament will be held on O‘ahu.
