KALAPAKI — The results are in! The official one’s that is. The Kaua‘i Jr. Lifeguard Island Championships saw Hanalei at the top of the team category.
Noelani Moeller took two gold medals in the girls 13-14 division (1000 meter beach run and beach flags).
Camille Brady of Hanalei out raced Chelci Lamay-McVay of Po‘ipu in the 100m run-100m swim-100m run.
Alana Blanchard swam her way into first-place in the 200 meter swim, and in the paddle board relays, Hanalei got the top prize, followed by Po‘ipu.
Scott McGrath took the boys 13-14 1000 meter beach run and Dylan Melamed dominated the beach flags contest, in a Hanalei dominated field.
Melamed also claimed first-place in the 100m run-100m swim-100m run and the individual paddle board contest.
Randy Umetsu of Salt Pond grabbed top honors in the 200 meter swim.
Rachel Martin topped the girls 15-17 1000 meter beach run and nearly won the beach flags competition, but it was Po‘ipu’s Emma Makepa-Foley, who won the event.
Jackie Brady, was the top winner in the 100m run-100m swim-100m run and in the individual paddle board.
Katelyn Umetsu put up the top score for the 200 meter swim.
Nathan Martin of Salt Pond slipped past Scott Martin for the 1000 meter beach run win and Kaimi Kaneholani was the only one left standing in the beach flags contest.
Fletcher Parker dominated the 100m run-100m swim-100m run and the 200 meter swim.
Nathan Collier of Hanalei was the individual paddle board winner.
The Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Jr. Lifeguard program was held at five different locations this year. This free program teaches our youths about ocean hazards and safety, lessons in first aid and CPR, rescue skills, environmental awareness, teamwork, and leadership.
