A walk through the National Tropical Botanical Garden’s McBryde Garden includes an educational talk by NTBG horticultural and historical experts, and is Sunday, Aug. 15 from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Changing Faces of Lawa‘i Valley — From Sugar Cane to Botanical Garden,” is the subject of the event, with NTBG staff talking about the valley’s transformation from the days of sugarcane production to the botanical gardens that exist today.
Space is limited, and children under 12 are not allowed. Those interested must be able to walk three miles, and should wear comfortable shoes, bring mosquito repellent and water.
Check-in time is 8:45 a.m. at the NTBG’s Bill & Jean Lane Visitor Center & Gift Shop along Lawa‘i Road across from Spouting Horn Park.
The cost is $10 per person. Reservations are required.
The NTBG is a nonprofit institution, with headquarters on Kaua‘i, and is dedicated to tropical-plant research, conservation, and education, emphasizing rare and endangered species.
