LIHU‘E — With the 2004 K-PAL flag football season coming to a screeching halt yesterday at the North Vidinha Soccer Complex, there was more than just flag football happening. In addition, the numerous politicians, including Mayor Bryan Baptiste joined the football fans, parents, and players for a closing ceremony, which included the handing out of medals to all participants and a slew of fun games and rides for the football players, who needed a break from the heated action on the gridiron.
In addition, K-PAL treated the crowd to free hot dogs and drinks.
“Yeah, we tried to make this last day a fun day for all the particpants and their families,” K-PAL director Mark Ozaki said. Indeed they did, as the complex remained crowded throughout the morning and into the afternoon. One of the Koloa parents, Cindy Wortman was busy with all three of her children, after husband Dr. Eric Wortman, was away with other duties, but Cindy still found a way to watch her son play for Koloa. It was that kind of day for flag football parents, who juggled schedules to find some time to watch their son or daughter play for the last time this year in a flag football uniform.
The flag football season ended the same way it started, successful and fun. “This was another great season for us and we actually doubled the number of players this year,” Ozaki said.
