Kaua‘i High School senior quarterback Kekoa Crowell nabbed top honors for his quarterbacking duties at the second annual Hula Bowl Maui football camp last week.
The three-day camp at the Kamehameha Schools Maui campus, attracted over 100 athletes, which featured University of Colorado associate head coach Brian Cabral, who ran the camp for the second straight year.
In addition to the Red Raider passer, Jett Jasper, one of the targets for Crowell, a Kaua‘i High receiver also attended the camp. Waimea’s T.J. Battis and Justin Estes were among the other Kaua‘i athletes on Maui.
The camp included two-a-day practices and concluded with a scrimmage between the players, which came from all over the state.
“It was good to get together with some of the guys from around the other islands and get to know them,” Crowell said.
In addition to the players, Crowell noted that the exposure to the college coaches was what made the camp really special.
“I really thought that the exposure all of the players got from the camp was invaluable and I think that every athlete benefited from going to Maui (for the camp),” Crowell said.
In addition to Cabral, the camp coaches included Colorado coaches Chris Wilson and Shawn Watson, Keith Williams (San Jose State), Vince Okruch (formerly Colorado), Eric Bienemy (UCLA), Viliami Tuivai (Boise State) and Alex Gurke (Golden West JC).
All but Bienemy and Tuivai were here in 2003 as well.
