Tom Shigemoto was the happy one at Saturday’s Na Koa golf tourney — he got to “win” the University of Hawai‘i game helmet autographed by Coach June Jones. Actually, Tom was lucky because after an O‘ahu golfer was selected, the recipient said, “No, it should go to someone from Kaua‘i,” which started the drawing all over, again. Dustin Moises was in the million dollar hole-in-one contest, and according to reliable sources, Conrad Murashige was the closest, but no million dollars. Peggy, or Margaret? I guess it can be both as Sherwood Hara’s missus was featured on the front page of Spokane’s “Liberty Lake Splash” where Peggy (Margaret?)’s brother Charlie Finck (they’re regular Kaua‘i visitors) was honored for finishing the Ironman Coeur d’Alene there. Finck’s ‘ohana from as far away as New Jersey congregated in Spokane for the event — go, Team Finck! Speaking of the Hara ‘ohana, son Kolea finished his junior year at Gonzaga on the Dean’s List and President’s List! He is majoring in mechanical engineering and spending the summer interning at Kaiser Aluminum. Shelly Gerardo reminds everyone that Cold Stone Creamery (Barbi Taylor said she’ll be manning Kukui Grove while Don helps in Waipouli) will be hosting a Special Olympics Hawai‘i cake social on July 29 (it’s still National Ice Cream month) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at both stores.
It’s a free slice of ice cream cake, and a chance to donate to Hawai‘i’s Special Olympians.
Finally, if you need something for the kids to do, this afternoon is the Speed Camp with Rich Miano (hopefully, Natasha Kai gets to come this time) coordinated by Roy Nishida’s office. The event starts at 2 p.m. at the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.
