If you missed getting your Krispy Kremes (where did June Tada get hers from?), fear not because there are more along the way – Josie Pablo had some of those tickets on hand at Friday’s Kaua‘i Cup opening. Josie’s daughter Maegan is a member of the PeeWee inline skating team that’s trying to raise funds to compete in the Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. later this month along with the Mites.
Their pickup is on July 16 (there’s still time to call Lon Shimanuki for your ticket). A.J. Silva was juggling her schedule to take in the KYBA Girls 19U hoops as well as make the Hokuala softball games where she was helping boost the team’s morale, and Maegan had two of those softball games, the council recognition before playing in the soccer tournament.
Hats off to Sean Magoun for doing such a bang-up job with the Kaua‘i Cup (Mike Goto was tooling around on his bike to get from the Island School office to the information tent), and kudos also to Marilyn Wong, Aaron Uyeda, Melanie Okamoto (she’s trying to see if Roy’s will do the pizza thingie with the Koloa Summer Funners, too), Sam Arashiro, and all those county Agency of Recreation (how does summer hire Kristen Takashima know whose bottle of water belong to who?) people who made the Summer Fun Day such a success. Marina Martinez of Garden Island Inflatables, hopefully, will have gotten some days to recover from the Concert in the Sky, the Summer Fun Day, and the summer heat before summer school next week. OK – ‘nuff said.
It’s time to check out KCC culinary arts’ Billy Gibson, Clarence Nishi, Mark Oyama, and all those chili cooks at the Chili Cookoff.
