The heavy rainfall that poured down over Lihu’e this past Saturday, June 19, accumulated to a total of .81 inches, breaking the .23 inches record set in 1979, according to a National Weather Service report.
A spokesperson for the National Weather Service in Honolulu said the downpour is nothing unusual, with our island being randomly receiving several patches of rain-filled clouds over the weekend.
The year-to-date precipitation for the Lihu‘e area is 19.61 inches, beating last years precipitation of 18.54 inches for the same period.
The weather forecast for this week shows mostly partly cloudy skies in the windward and mauka areas with a few scattered showers, and sunny conditions in leeward areas. Temperatures rise between 71-86 degrees all week, with trades ranging from 10-25 mph.
