Malia sails away with win

Nawiliwili—The fifth race of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s Honu (Turtle) Series took place Thursday evening, June 3. The NE trades were blowing gently around 10 to 15 knots as the boats maneuvered the 3.71 nautical mile course.
Five monohulls participated with the results as follows (time is the corrected time based on the boat’s rating): 1.Malia 39:08, 2. Speedy 43:22, 3. Coyote 44:15, 4. Bonjolea 45:06 and 5. Papa Au 48:00. Two multi-hulls participated; Kalewa place first (45:16) and Malihini was second (46:35).
The monohulls lead the Open Class with Malia 1st, Speedy 2nd, Coyote 3rd and Bonjolea 4th. The six race series will conclude next Thursday; first flag is at 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to view the races from the jetty.
Team Motiv-8 soccer tryouts
Team Motiv-8 Soccer Club is having open tryouts for the 2004 fall and spring HYSA seasons.
Tryouts for girls U8, U10, U12, U14, U16/U18 are happening at the Wailua Houselots Park from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on June 11.

West Kaua‘i playoffs continue
The playoffs are here for the West Kaua‘i Youth Baseball League’s mustang and bronco divisions.
On Tuesday, the Kalawai Yankees beat the Waimea Blue Jays, 10-8 in mustang action. The second game pitted the Koloa Athletics against the Hanapepe Cubs in a game that mirrored a football score with the Cubs slamming the Athletics, 23-8.
In bronco games, the games were a little closer with the Koloa Astros winning a close one, 3-2 over the Kalawai Yankees. The Waimea Blue Jays cooled the Hanapepe Dragons, 5-4.
The playoffs continue today at 4:30 p.m., at Kalawai, Kekaha, and Hanapepe. In mustang action, the Kalawai Yankees take on the Kalawai Cardinals and the Hanapepe Cubs match-up against the Kekaha Angels. The broncos feature the Koloa Astros against the Hanapepe Cubs and the Waimea Blue Jays versus the Kekaha Indians.
Pop Warner registration
The Northshore Pop Warner Association will accept registrations for their 2004 tackle football and cheer season on Thursday June 11 at the Kilauea Gym from 4 to 6 p.m.
