A house fire Sunday afternoon in Puhi caused an estimated $40,000 in damages, although no smoke or fire damage was evident from the outside.
Damage to the home, at 4468 Puhi Road, four houses makai from Kaumuali‘i Highway in Puhi, was contained in the television room, said Cyndi Mei Ozaki, county public information officer.
But yesterday, a walk around the home revealed no scarring from flames or any other damage visible from the outside of the home.
Efforts to reach the homeowner for comment were unsuccessful.
The call from a neighbor was received at 3:57 p.m. Sunday, and Kaua‘i Fire Department Engine 3 from Lihu‘e responded by 4:01 p.m., Ozaki said.
By 4:05 p.m., the fire was under control, thanks to a neighbor, who knocked the fire down using a garden hose, she added.
The fire is under investigation.
