KALAPAKI — The Kaua‘i Historical Society celebrated the 90th anniversary of its founding in 1914 with a Royal Ball held Saturday night.
Society executive director Mary Requilman said the event was a success both as a fundraiser and an enjoyable evening for the Kaua‘i community.
“The turnout was fabulous, everyone ranted and raved about the entertainment,” Requilman said.
The event featured ballroom dancing with period music provided by Aaron Mahi and his “Royal Serenaders.” The band played hapa haole tunes from the 1903-1914 early Territorial Days, pre-World War I era of Hawai‘i.
The annual celebration helps support the work of the Kaua‘i Historical Society in archiving and gathering historical information, images and objects of Kaua‘i’s past.
