Stephen Tanigawa
Stephen Kazuto Tanigawa of California and Kekaha, died March 31, 2004, at the age of 72.
Born in Waimea, on June 25, 1931, he is survived by one sister: Kiyoko (Junichi) Hashimoto of Waimea; two brothers: Kenichi (Shirley) Tanigawa of California and George Tanigawa of Kekaha; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held in California and on Kaua‘i. The family requests that monetary gifts be omitted.
Benedict Iida
Benedict Iida of Lihu‘e; died at home on April 8, 2004, after a short fight with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Napoleon Iida; sons Ronald (Jean) Iida, Sherwood (Sylvia) Iida, daughter, Jocelyn (the late Clyde) Yamamoto; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 23, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church beginning at 6 p.m. with Mass to follow at 6:45 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Albena Carvalho
Albena Carvalho of Hanama‘ulu died April 17, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 73.
A licensed practical nurse for Wilcox Memorial Hospital, she was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Kapa‘a.
She is survived by one son: Richard B. Carvalho of Hanama‘ulu; one daughter; Marie “Honu” (Garfield) McCullen of Hanama‘ulu; one sister: Ramona (Chuck) Yang of California; two brothers: Bernard (Sally) Ancheta of California and Abel J. (Hoku) Souza Sr. of Kapa‘a; and one grandson: Max McCullen of Hanama‘ulu.
Services are scheduled for Friday, April 23, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kapaia. Visitation starts at 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Hazel Myung Sook Pahk Chung
Hazel Myung Sook Pahk Chung of Kaneohe, O‘ahu, died April 3, 2004, in Waipahu, O‘ahu.
Born May 22, 1911, in Ewa, O‘ahu, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Euicho C. Chung.
She is survived by three children: Winchell (Ann) Chung, Eldean (Phil) Scott of Kaua‘i, and Afton C. Pomerleau; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Lee; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 23, at Borthwick Mortuary on O‘ahu, with service at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Saint Francis Hospice at 91-2127 Fort Weaver Road, Ewa Beach, HI, 96706.

Tazuko Kobatake
Tazuko Kobatake of Hilo, Hawai‘i, died March 28, 2004, at the Life Care Center of Hilo at the age of 90.
Born June 4, 1913, in Mt. View, HI, she was a retired school teacher.
Friends may call Thursday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel on the Big Island; service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Richard Sialana of Kekaha died April 13, 2004, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 68.
Born April 1, 1936, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, he worked in the drywall industry.
He is survived by two daughters: Kealoha Wells and Kalea Pasco; his companion: Lourdes Domingo; three brothers: Christopher (Betty) Sialana of California; Rodney (Jenny) Sialana of Washington; Kanoi Sialana of California; eight sisters: Celia (Orville) Thiel of Ohio, Rose Sialana of Kaua‘i, Carnelia (Wayne) Taylor of Georgia, Jessica Danahay of Idaho, Beverly (Dennis) Hutchinson of California, Phyllis Sialana of Kaua‘i, Apryle (Alton) Fujisaki of Honolulu, Tamara (Mike) Faumuina of Honolulu; aunts and uncles: Jose (Josephine) Alvarez, Sonny (Sally) Alvarez, Petra Sialana, Mary Adams, Martha Sialana Kruse; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eric Albert Emberson of Lihu‘e, died April 13, 2004, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 88.
Born Sept. 3, 1915, in London, England, he was overseas manager for British Airways.
He is survived by his wife: Helen Emberson; three sons: Craig (Leane) Emberson, Ian (Coco) Emberson of Makaweli, and Alan (Becky) Emberson; seven grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22, at St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lihu‘e. Inurnment at the church cemetery will follow
