Fukiko Hamamura
Fukiko Sakuda Hamamura of Kapa‘a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 13, 2004 at the age of 85.
Born in Wahiawa, Kaua‘i on June 13, 1918, she was a seamstress and homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Kerry (Junko) Hamamura of Oceanside, California and Eric (Angie) Hamamura of Cupertino, Calif.; two daughters, Cheryl (Melvin) Morris of Lawai, and Darlene (Walter) Holland of Bremerton, Washington; brother-in-law, Dr. Edward Hamamura of Honolulu, O‘ahu; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Kapaa Jodo Mission; service officiated by Rev. Shoryu Akiya will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted. Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Jordan Lee Hammond
Jordan Lee Kalauauala Hammond of Gurley, Ala., died March 26, 2004, at the age of 44.
A native of Hawai‘i, he had lived in Madison County, Ala. for the past five years. He was retired from the U.S. Army and employed as a security guard at Huntsville Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred E. Hammond, and is survived by his wife, Tena Hammond; son Timothy Robinson of Huntsville; mother B.J. Hammond, three brothers Robert (Melinda) Hammond, Alfred Hammond, both of Anahola, and Fred Hammond Jr. of O‘ahu; and two sisters: Shanlyn Hammond of Kapa‘a and Ramona Hammond of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren: Brooklyn and Emerald Robinson; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at Berry Hill funeral home. He was laid to rest at Valhalla Cemetery Gardens in Huntsville, Ala. A get-together will be held at the Hammonds’ residence in Anahola at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, for family and friends. For information, call 822-0020.
Mary V. Anderton
Mary V. Anderton died April 9, 2004 at the age of 56 from complications caused by ovarian cancer.
The owner of Payroll Services Hawaii, Mary earned her captain’s license and was planning to sail the British Virgin Islands when she was diagnosed.
Mary was born Nov. 2, 1947 in Evanston, Ill. Always loving the ocean, Mary was an avid and accomplished sailor and surfer; and her photographs have been featured in “Surfer Magazine.”
Mary adored animals and provided a loving home to many over her lifetime. Currently, little “Dream” kitten has been her constant companion and their bond is extraordinary.
She is survived by her mother, Elaine Carmel; brother, Russell D. Gillespie; sister, Carolyn A. Woods; nephews, Alexander K. Royal and Douglas S. Royal. She will be greatly missed by her family and closest friends, Gerald Saunders, Jon Anderton and Don Bogowitz. Mary treasured her friends on the North Shore and will be missed by all.

Otto Koerte Jr.
Otto Koerte, Jr. of Kalaheo, died April 12, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82.
An equipment operator, he was born May 11, 1921, in Hanama‘ulu.
He is survived by his wife: Rose P. Koerte of Kalaheo; two daughters: Tammie Ann (Gilbert) Medeiros of Koloa and Andrea Kawamura of Kalaheo; three sisters: Margaret (Louis) Parraga; Violet (Norris) Bogan and Grace (John) Shultz; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call at Lihue Lutheran Church on Friday, April 16, from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. Services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Sueo Furumoto
Sueo Furumoto of Kealia, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 9, 2004 at the age of 76.
Born in Kealia, Kaua‘i on Aug. 25, 1927, he was a journeyman mechanic with Hawaiian Canneries and Lihue Plantation.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; three daughters, Alix (Lou) Jourdain of Las Vegas, Colene (Jace) Schaefer of Kealia and Avis (Gerard) Koerte of Hanama‘ulu; three sons, Mark (Tracie) Furumoto of Kealia, Richard (Mandy) Furumoto of Wailua Homestead and Kerry Furumoto of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild, two sisters, Momoyo Kasaoka of Honolulu and Sadako Fujiuchi of Kealia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service officiated by Rev. Morita will begin at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Fred Pavao
Fred Pavao of Makaweli, died at Kauai Care Center on Apr. 12, 2004, at the age of 87.
Born in Makaweli on Dec. 31, 1916, he was employed by Gay and Robinson for 42 years.
Preceded in death by parents: Antone and Henrietta Pavao, and son: Rodney Pavao, he is survived by wife: Edith; son: Roy (Laura) Pavao of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters: Cecilia Barriga of Waimea, Charlene (Anthony) Halby of Grass Valley, Calif., Patricia Pavao of Kahului, Maui and Pamela Damasco (Richard) Pridemore of Wailuku, Maui; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 to 10 a.m. on Monday, April 19, at the Waimea Sacred Hearts Catholic Church; Mass officiated by Father Larry will begin at 10 a.m. Followed by burial at Kekaha Public Cemetery.
