Results of KKHSRA make up rodeo announced
Kristyn Vasconcelles topped the winnings with three first place finishes at the make up rodeo #4 hosted by the Kaua‘i Keiki and High School Rodeo Association on Apr. 4.
Britni Braun, Kelli Carveiro, and Kalani Grace were double winners with the team of Brittney Brun and Chaz Rita emerging double winners in the team events.
In the high school competition, the battle between Kristene Sugai and Sumiko Falque in the barrels and pole bending events dominated the excitement, Sugai edging out Falque in both events.
Rhonda Kaui topped Falque in the Breakaway Roping event, and Randy Brun posted top honors in the Calf Roping as well as the only time in the Po‘o Wai U event.

Phengsavath-Smith win PGA Pro-Pro Championship
The Aloha Section PGA announced the final results of the 2004 Aloha Section PGA Pro Pro Championship played at the Ka‘anapali Tournament North Course on Monday. The competition is a 36-hole 4-ball stroke play team event with 27 teams of 54 island professionals playing for a $14,000 purse.
Marc Smith, Head Professional at Makaha Resort Golf Club and Approved Tournament Player Joe Phengsavath, who just turned professional this year, shot a 6-under par 65 in the final round to capture the Pro Pro title.
Smith and Phengsavath shot a 68 on Sunday for a total of 9-under par 133. Kevin Hayashi of Mauna Kea Resort and Hilo Muni’s Lance Taketa (65-69-134) came in second with 8-under par, one shot back of the leaders.
Three teams tied for third, Craig Sasada and Dugal Milne (65-70-135), Brad Bowen and John Lynch (70-65-135), and Brendan Moynahan and Ben Hongo (67-68-135).
The Pro Pro Championship is one of two section tournaments during the year that allow Aloha Section members, apprentices, and ATPs, earning the winning team $3,000.
The Ka‘anapali Tournament North Course is an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design. It opened in 1962 and plays to 6,693 yards, par 71.
Special Olympics golf tournament
Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort will be sponsoring a golf tournament fund raiser for the Kaua‘i Special Olympics. The golf tournament will be held on Sunday, Apr. 18, 2004 at the Puakea Golf Course with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The fee is $85.00 per golfer which includes golf, an elaborate lunch, fabulous prizes and entertainment by Aloha Breeze.
A brand new Dodge Hemi 4 X 4 truck from King Auto Center is the prize for the hole-in-one contest. Golf prizes include restaurant dining certificates, golf equipment, golf merchandise and more.
A silent auction will take place after the tournament and during lunch .
The funds that are raised will help the Kaua‘i Special Olympics with expenses that are incurred with their participation in the Hawai‘i Special Olympics sporting events that take place in Honolulu.
