The Kaua‘i Historical Art & Photo Exhibition is set to run April 17-May 15 at the Ship Store Galleries in the Coconut Marketplace at Wailua. The show is to feature original artworks in various media that capture life on Kaua‘i in the early 1900s. Fine-art prints of photos in the Kaua‘i Historical Society 90th Anniversary Collection, taken in early 1900s to 1960s, are being featured, and include scenes of historic buildings, plantations, pineapple cannery, locations from Hanalei to Waimea. Prints will be available in custom sizes and frames, along with artwork by Fred Tangalin, Michael Protiva, Stephen Sands, and others. Part of proceeds benefit the Kaua‘i Historical Society.
An opening champagne reception is set for April 17 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
On Saturday, April 24, the Kaua‘i Historical Society is holding its 90th Anniversary Royal Ball at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. A gala evening is planned with fine dining, popular Hawaiian music from the monarchy to 1940s by the Royal Serenaders, a band that includes Aaron Mahi, Randy Hongo, Martin Pahinui, George Kuo, Bobby Ingano, and vocalist Cathy Foy. Hula is being performed at the event by Blaine Kia’s halau.
