Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste and several other community leaders got new “essences,” looks really, Tuesday night, courtesy of Dore Jean.
Jean is a certified essence consultant and owner and operator of Kaizen Continuous Improvement, and performed her magic to an appreciative audience during the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly general membership meeting at the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa in Po‘ipu.
Baptiste got the largest response, sending out Kalani Vierra, one of the supervising lifeguards of the county, as his made-over self, before unveiling his new look.
Others agreeing to be made-over included Paul Douglass, chair of the Wilcox Memorial Hospital board of directors; Jerry Gibson, Hyatt general manager; Sue Kanoho, executive director of the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau; Nani Larsen, Kaua‘i foundation officer for the Hawai‘i Community Foundation; and Cheryl Michioka, owner of Mokihana Travel Service.
“Our six participants have received the new look for 2004 to enhance their already great appearances,” says Joy Miura Koerte, chairperson of the Chamber’s Events and Activities Committee.
Jean coordinated the makeovers, with assistance from Kukui Grove Center, Kauai Products Store, Tropical Heat, Grande’s Gems, Paradise Beauty Salon and Spa, Curves, Illuminessence, Lucy Kawaihalau and Kauai Vacation Rentals, Fujita & Miura Public Relations, and Anara Spa, which provided all hair and makeup services for the participants.
Jean met with the makeover participants to determine their “tone,” and assisted them in selecting outfits and accessories that brought out their true essence, she said.
The Chamber’s Makeover Extravaganza: The Look for 2004 was sponsored by Wilcox Health.
During the event, Dr. Lee “Bill” Evslin, president and chief executive officer of Wilcox Health, talked about the new diagnostic and surgical centers at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, and how Wilcox Health is changing health care to better meet the needs of Kaua‘i’s residents and visitors.
Evslin’s “Picture the Future” presentation focused on patient-centered care and keeping pace with best standards of practice.
