In Wyoming, they have wild horses. In Wailua, not so wild sawhorses have been spotted.
Over two dozen of these fine splintered critters were crafted recently by the Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park in preparation for the volunteer community Kamalani Pavilion build that begins this Thursday, March 18.
These horses are sturdy, contractor-grade, glued and screwed with horizontal braces for additional storage and stability. They will be used to support large trays for sorting and laying out the school children’s sea-life, ceramic-tile creations that will decorate the soon-to- be-built Kamalani Pavilion at Lydgate Park.
The sawhorses will also be used in the fabrication tents and on the build site for designing the mosaics that will be artistically incorporated into the pavilion.
Upon the completion of the pavilion, the sawhorses will be rounded up and auctioned off.
The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park agreed it was fun putting the horses together, and it will be even more fun using them in the volunteer community Kamalani Pavilion build.
The build completion date is Wednesday, April 7. Work is to continue seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with child daycare available all day on Fridays and Saturdays, plus afternoons on Sundays.
People of all ages and skill levels are urged to volunteer and join their friends and neighbors at Lydgate Park in Wailua in building the Kamalani Pavilion. This structure will be the latest addition to the Lydgate Park master plan, bringing to reality the Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park’s vision of a state-of-the-art park for Kaua‘i.
Volunteers may call the YWCA at 245-5959 to sign up. Additional information is available at www.kamalani.org.
