But, for the moment, they worked on getting past the Waimea Menehune at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts on Saturday, the Warrior girls taking the Menehune four wins to one, and the Warrior boys continuing the streak with four wins to one.
Kaua‘i’s initial foray into the KIF arena was cancelled due to rain at the Hanapepe courts, had their girls victorious, four wins to one against Kula at the Hanalei Bay courts Saturday.
Tasha Haraguchi controlled Waimea’s Sonya Tacub in the Girls First Singles, 6-2, 6-1, but Warrior Shawna Tamayose went three matches in the Girls Second Singles to get past Waimea’s Mitzi Seto, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Kapa‘a girls’ only loss came in the Third Doubles as Waimea’s team of Tori Kagawa and Ashley Shimono downed Carrie Esaki and Jaclyn Filippe, 6-3, 6-4.
Ashley Valvieja and Chrystine Ito took the First Doubles over Ciera Sherman and Reiko Ayabe, 6-1, 6-0, and Kellie Okamoto and Julie Yoshida defeated Sara Nonaka and Kristine Sison, 6-4, 6-3.
Justin Vea led the Warrior boys as he took the First Singles over Bryan Hayashi, 6-1, 6-4 with Justin Nagai handling Peterson Dela Cruz, 7-5, 6-2 in the Boys Second Singles.
Kapa‘a boys suffered the same fate as the girls, dropping their Third Doubles to Waimea as the team of Donovan Manguba-Glover and Scott Martin got past Taylor Alfiler and Martin Anonio in three, 6(5)-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Kapa‘a controlled the First and Second Doubles as Kia Tom and Waylen Sadang downed Jeffery Kakuda and David Honma, 6-2, 6-0, and the Warrior team of Bryson Toda and Whitney Haraguchi working three to get over Kollin Morikawa and Scott Lopez, 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-4.
Kula’s sole win over the Kaua‘i girls came in the First Singles as Ariel Carson downed Lezlie Tao, 6-3, 6-3.
Ligaya Malones took her Second Singles over Moana Ferry, 6-3, 6-3.
The Red Raider team of Jaime Wakomoto and Tatiana Zina downed Kula’s Danielle Jure and Eve Laurpenfeld, 6-3, 6-2 in the Girls First Doubles with Kaua‘i’s Kelly Torigoe and Megan Vento defeating Alex Pond and Nora Robertson, 6-0, 6-0 in the Second Doubles.
Jacey Ageno and Alyssa Stanwood took a forfeit win in the Girls Third Doubles.
Exhibition matches at Kiahuna had Waimea sweeping both boys and girls doubles matches as Jake Anderson and Jonathan Manguba-Glover downed Cory Sokei and Shem Greenleaf, 8-5, Jonah Farias and John Karatti defeating Brent Sokei and Koa Yama, 8-1, and Donovan Manguba-Glover and Scott Martin repeating as winners over Christopher Ramelb and Tayler Alfiler, 8(3)-7.
In Girls Exhibition Doubles, Waimea’s Jenny Rumbaoa and Erna Agmata teamed to better Christine Lane and Eryn O’Shaughnessy, 8-5, and Kelsi Naumu and Sharla Shimono downed Mohala Johnson and Carrie Esaki, 8-2.
