Johnny Ruaboro’s 15 points led Puhi to a 57-33 win over Kapa‘a Wednesday night as the county’s 14U boys basketball program entered its second week at both the Kalaheo and Kilauea Neighborhood centers.
Elijah Phillips finished with 16 points for Kapa‘a who played Puhi in the opener of a double-header in Kilauea.
Curran Doctolero and Kea Lopez each finished with nine points for their teams, Doctolero controlling the lead for Wailua who dropped Kalaheo, 53-29 in the second game at Kilauea.
Jonathan Gebauer led the Lihu‘e Breakaway with 16 points in their 64-23 showing over Motiv-8 who got eight points from Chance Bukoski in the first of two Wednesday night games in Kalaheo.
James Sagucio notched 11 points to lead Waimea and 1 to a 38-31 win over the Lihu‘e Lakers who saw Kilika Detloff post 10 points.
Saturday morning games in Kalaheo saw Kimo Farias post 13 points to lead the Westside Hornets to a 39-31 win over Kapa‘a, Elijah Phillips leading the effort with nine points.
Kea Lopez led the Kalaheo Pistons with 13 points in their 31-28 showing over Waimea and 1, Tyson Wilson fueling that effort with seven points.
Iolani boys, Kam girls, King K share paddling titles
The Iolani boys, the girls from Kamehameha O‘ahu and the mixed team from King Kekaulike on Maui took the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association/First Hawaiian Bank State Canoe Paddling Championships this afternoon at Ke‘ehi Lagoon.
The Kamehameha girls picked up their third championship in the 3-year history of the event, while Iolani picked up their second straight win.
Postponed from Friday due to inclement weather, the event ran Saturday with 24 races in three divisions with the teams from the ILH dominating the boys and girls races, winning all six boys and girls championships since the event started in 2002.
Waimea boys finished eighth in the semi-finals with a 4:19.92 while the Island School girls team finished seventh in the semis on a 5:05.45.
The Kaua‘i Mixed team took the sixth place in the semis with a 4:30.02 followed closely by the Island School Mixed team who finished 4:30.76.
