LIHU‘E — December was a month to remember for the new Kukui Grove Shopping Center Coldstone Creamery store.
After moving to the shopping center on Nov. 23, the business had a record-breaking month of sales in December.
Out of 560 stores nationwide, the Coldstone Lihu‘e location finished fifth overall in monthly sales.
“This mall had a lot of people come through here (Kukui Grove) around that time,” said Don Taylor, owner of the Lihu‘e Coldstone Creamery. “We benefited heavily from the mall traffic.”
While sales figures weren’t available, the Lihu‘e Coldstone store beat out one of the four O‘ahu locations.
“The newness of this location also played a part,” said Barbie Taylor, who also owns the Lihu‘e location.
Sales for January slowed down quite a bit although the Taylor’s have said that February sales numbers have been steady.
According to the owners, the “Reading Log” program has helped sales here on the island.
Elementary school students on Kaua‘i receive a free “Kids Creation” ice cream treat after they read five books.
“I would guess that about 1,000 kids have been reached by the program,” said Don Taylor.
Recently, Coldstone formed a business partnership with Hawai‘i’s Meadow Gold and will now receive their dairy products from the company.
The owners believe the new partnership will help improve efficiency and establish the two Kaua‘i locations (the first island store opened in Kapa‘a in 2003) as having Hawai‘i products.
On Thursday, the Lihu‘e Coldstone Creamery hosted the Chamber of Commerce “After Hours Business” celebration. Approximately 200 members were on hand at the event.
Notes: The Kukui Grove Center Coldstone Creamery has just unveiled its new ice cream cakes.
Twelve signature cakes feature layers of fresh ice cream with either devil’s food, yellow or red velvet cake wrapped in either a fudge ganache or frosting.
The fabulous cakes are currently available in the Kukui Grove Center Cold Stone Creamery and will be available in the Kauai Village Shopping Center by mid-March.
