HONOLULU, O‘ahu — Kaua‘i High School midfielder Justin Toulon broke open a 0-0 deadlock at the 48:53 mark to lead the Red Raiders to a 1-0 win over the Castle Knights at the HHSAA/Ohana Hotels & Resorts Boys State Soccer Championships being played at the Aloha Stadium on O‘ahu.
Rebounding from a goal given up in the first five minutes of their game on Wednesday, Kaua‘i outshot Castle, 13-11 while relying on their defense to keep goalie Ronald Hosaka to just four saves in the game.
Castle goalie William Ige-Donnely suffered an injury in the first ten minutes, but not before making a save for the Knights, Ige-Donnely being replaced by Chris Durlacher who finished with five saves for Castle.
With the win, Kaua‘i will advance to the consolation championship on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. Their opponent will be the winner of Friday’s Waiakea/Hilo matchup.
Third seed Baldwin remains the only outer island team advancing after edging Kalaheo, 4-3 on Thursday afternoon.
Kealakehe of the Big Island, the tourney’s fourth seed, was bettered by Kamehameha II, 2-1 on Thursday.
