The 7-Eleven in Lihu‘e was robbed early yesterday morning by a local man claiming to have a knife. An unknown amount of cash was taken.
Kaua’i Police Department officials are asking for the public’s help with solving the crime, which occurred at 3:39 a.m. Monday morning.
At that time, an unidentified local male, who claimed to be armed with a knife, confronted a clerk at the 7-Eleven store and demanded money from the cash register. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot.
KPD is asking for assistance from anyone who was in the area of the Lihu’e 7-Eleven on Monday, Feb. 16, between 3:15 and 3:45 a.m., who may have seen the suspect.
The suspect is described as a local male, 5’2″ to 5’6″, 140-160 lbs., wearing dark pants, a dark-colored long-sleeved sweater or coat and a light-colored beanie cap.
A manager at the Lihu‘e store would not comment on the robbery, because he was not at the scene when the incident occurred.
He did say that the store is not equipped with video surveillance cameras, but that cashiers have procedures to follow with regards to making sure only a small amount of cash is at hand at any one time.
He would not comment on the procedures or whether cashiers were following the procedures at the time of the robbery.
He added that while he was still in the process of doing inventory, it appeared that only the cash was taken.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Regina Ventura at 241-1680 or Detective Samuel Sheldon at 241-1688.
