Kaua‘i Fire Department fire fighters from stations in Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e were called to Anahola Saturday afternoon to fight two brush fires.
The first broke out along Kealia Road mauka of Anahola town, and consumed about six to eight acres, said KFD Battalion Chief Bob Kaden.
Later a second, more serious, brush fire ignited on the makai side of Anahola, close to homes in the Anahola Village area.
Kaden said the firefighters set up a defensive perimeter near the fire to protect the homes. He said homes would have been destroyed by the Kona-wind driven fire without the aid of the fire department.
Both fires are being investigated, Kaden said. Tweleve firefigthers were involved in the response.
