For Kaori Ishida and Yuka Nakamura, two of the three Rotary exchange students from Japan, Saturday marked a milestone in their year-long experience here as they accompanied their host family’s Darrell Horner to the grand-opening celebration of Starbucks and Jamba Juice at Kukui Grove Center that was punctuated by the Hawaiian blessing of early-morning showers.
“They don’t have Jamba (Juice) in Japan,” Nakamura said, clearly excited about being part of the grand opening for a place that is clearly popular with the younger crowd.
Nakamura is one of three students here from Japan, and attends Kaua‘i High School. Ishida, excited about being interviewed by a member of the press, attends Waimea High School. The third student, who could not make the celebration, is Haruka Kawamoto, who also attends Kaua‘i High School.
Sample sizes of drinks from both Jamba Juice and Starbucks were given away yesterday morning.
