KAPA‘A — Kaua‘i High School guard Alec Reichle made a difference. So did Kapa‘a guard Kaylan Dolor as Reichle lit up the scoreboards with an opening salvo from three-pointland enroute to the Red Raiders taking a 67-51 win over the Warriors Friday night.
Reichle, finishing the night with five treys, combined with Va‘afuti Tavana to lead the scorebooks with 22 points apiece in the win, Tavana adding his own trey in the first quarter.
Trying to stifle the barrage from the outside, Kapa‘a turned to Leonel Calvan and Kaylan Dolor, Calvan answering with a pair of trey in the first half, and Dolor trying to rekindle a dying Warrior spirit in the second half with a pair of trey.
Dolor finished the night tied with Ryan Cram, both Warriors finishing with 14 points apiece in the loss, Cram marking 12 of his points in the first half while Dolor chalked up a dozen of his 14 points in the second half.
Calvan finished with eight points, all coming in the first half.
Riding behind the outside shots, Kaua‘i held a 19-13 lead at the first quarter, but the play of Dolor and Calvan trimmed the Kapa‘a deficit to three, 34-31 at the half.
The slugfest carried through the third stanza, but following a Dolor trey at the 2:11 mark, Kaua‘i racked up 14 unanswered points into the fourth quarter before Kapa‘a came back with two Amini Ta‘ufo‘o buckets.
But, the damage was already done as Cram fouled out and the Raiders controlled the floor.
For Tavana, the scoring mix came from the outside, inside, and on the free throw line as he finished with a trey, five field goals, and 6-for-10 on the line.
Aren Racca posted ten points, nine coming in the second half, to help the Raider effort.
