KAPA‘A — Lihu‘e A’s Dwight Fujii and Peter Rayno scored four times each including their tour in the inning-limited seven-run opening frame as the A’s handed Kawaihau the first of two losses in the opening games of the Kaua‘i Senior Softball League on Jan. 31.
Tomo Hiranaka crossed the plate three times as Lihu‘e shut down Kawaihau, 18-6 in the first of four games played at the New Kapa‘a Ball Park.
Kawaihau rebounded from that opening game loss by jumping out to a 3-0 lead over West Kaua‘i, but could not hold down the WK batters who exploded in the third inning for four runs on three hits enroute to an 18-10 win in game two.
WK continued to hammer away with seven runs on four hits in the fifth inning, but Kawaihau answered back with another seven runs in the sixth frame, both teams restricted by the seven-run/inning ruling.
Daniel Manus, Frank Bukoski, William Rittmeister, Joe Silva, Junior Rivera, and Ale Lomosad led the WK effort, each player scoring twice in the win.
Ron Alfonso, Paul Guzman, and Jack Lucas led the scoring for Kawaihau in game two, while Gary Wardlow led the game one effort with two runs scored.
The defending champion Rookies saw Walter Souza cross the plate four times enroute to an 18-6 showing over East Kaua‘i in game three.
Hank Nishikawa, Dickie Sialana, and Wally Sonoda each added three runs apiece in the win.
Donald Boro and Damien Victorino led the EK effort with two runs scored apiece with Ron Javier and Al Salvador each adding one run.
Guy ruiz, John Tabonair, Dado Paiste, and Stan Baduan each scored three runs to lead K-Makule to their 18-2 showing over Kuku’s Aces in the final game of the day, Ernie Dela Cruz and Kaleo Furtado scoring for Kuku’s.
Four games are on tap for Saturday, Feb. 7 at Isenberg Park with the first game pitching off at 9 a.m.
