PO’IPU — According to information in the most recent issue of the Poipu Beach Resort Association (PBRA) newsletter, 48 percent of Kaua’i’s domestic visitors last November stayed on Kaua’i only.
That number almost eight percent higher than the previous year. Among those who came from U.S. West, a whopping 65 percent spent their entire vacation on Kaua’i.
U.S. East visitors who stayed only on Kaua’i numbered 29 percent of that market, a 10 percent increase over the previous year.
While the total domestic arrivals to Kaua’i were down -3.4 percent, the Kaua’i-only number helped expand the average domestic length-of-stay to over seven days, an increase of 4.6 percent over the previous year.
International arrivals showed a significant decrease last November with the Japan market off by -27.3 percent percent and Canadian arrivals down by – 35.3 percent.
Kaua’i-only visitors from Japan, though a small number, increased 145 percent, from 255 to 655. Passengers arriving by cruise ship declined -5.6 percent. Scheduled air seats to Lihu’e, however, were up 27 percent over Nov. 02.
PBRA adds search function on website
PBRA’s new website looks the same, but its source code has been completely converted to a data base.
This has allowed a search function to be added so that the viewer simply enters the name of what they might be searching for, and the link to the member or the requested information will quickly pop up.
The project, undertaken by DataSpace Industries and PBRA’s Project Manager Melinda Uohara took about six weeks to complete.
Tsunami Marketing, which had formerly been handling the website, contributed significantly in moving PBRA towards this improvement.
It is expected that this improvement will keep viewers at the PBRA site for a longer time, since they can now navigate it with a search function.

Los Angeles Travel Show: On February 6, 7 and 8, PBRA will be in Long Beach, California, participating in the Los Angeles
Times Travel Show in cooperation with Kauai Visitors Bureau and Kaua’i County. The show draws an estimated 14,000 to 17,000 consumers.
Visitor Profile Survey:
PBRA’s unique research project, the Visitor Profile Survey, conducted every two years will be launched after Easter this year, instead of February.
While past projects have surveyed visitors to the Poipu area during high season (February and August), the plan this year is to collect data during “soft” or shoulder seasons.
Accommodations members will be asked to distribute and collect surveys during two survey periods in 2004, late April and late September. Data is processed by PBRA’s research contractor, DataSpace Industries.
