Garden Island Affiliates joined Newton Manufacturing Company earlier in January.
Chad and Teri Cataluna have been appointed to the position of Sales Representatives with the national promotional products distributor, Newton Manufacturing Company of Newton, Iowa.
The Cataluna’s will consult with local businesses to provideide as and suggestions for logobranded corporate gifts, awards, apparel and other imprinted merchandise to achieve customer goals.
BancWest’s quarterly earnings up

Company of Bank of the West and First Hawaiian Bank, Wednesday reported net income of $114.6 million for the fourth quarter of 2003, up 12 percent from the same quarter of 2002.
For the full year of 2003, net income was $436.6 million, up 20.8 percent from 2002, “This was our fifth straight record earnings year for BancWest, achieved through continued organic growth at Bank of the West and First Hawaiian Bank, and a full year’s earnings contribution from the 2002 acquisition of United California Bank. Net income grew steadily each quarter in 2003,” said Walter A. Dods, Jr., BancWest Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Training funds available
The Workforce Development Division of the State Department of Labor would like to announce the availability of the Employment and Training Fund (ETF) specifically designed for private employers on Kaua’i.
This fund is designed to upgrade current employee and employer skills so that Hawai’i businesses can remain competitive in today’s global marketplace.
Individual Employers can send their employees and themselves to job-related training classes that will increase and enhance skills they use in their workplace environment. Training includes computer classes, visitor industry, marketing, language, management and others.
Realtors offer two courses
The Kauai Board of Realtors will be offering two real estate continuing education courses on February 24 at the Kauai Marriott Hotel.
Registration for the morning class begins at 8:30 a.m. while signups for the afternoon class start at 1 p.m. The first morning course is titled “Methodologies to Listing the Buyer” while the afternoon class is called “Agency, Discovery and Disclosure.”
Hawaiian Air reports results
Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. Wednesday reported its preliminary, unaudited financial results for December 2003 to the bankruptcy court.
The preliminary December 2003 operating results reflect a $13.5 million operating profit on revenues of $69.9 million.
In December, Hawaiian’s systemwide capacity as measured by Available Seat Miles (ASMs) decreased year-over-year by 7 percent.
However, system-wide Revenue Passenger Miles (RPMs) increased by 2.5 percent.
