Catherine Sanford
Catherine Louise Sanford, died Dec. 27, 2003, in Tacoma, Wash., at the age of 54.
Born to Rosemary MacGeorge and John B. McCarthy in Coos Bay, Ore., she has lived in Eugene, Ore., Princeville and the North Shore of Kauai, Couer d’Alene, Idaho and most recently in Gig Harbor, Wash.
She touched many lives during her years at Margo’s Hair Design in North Bend, dancing at the Sawdust Theater in Coquille, OR., working for the Kauai Times, Captain Zodiac, and the Hawaiian Art Museum by Aloha International on Kaua’i. In Gig Harbor, she was the co-owner and artist of Topside Tees.
She is survived by the father of her daughters, Leon Sanford of Tucson, Ariz.; daughters Katrina (Mark) Fogelson of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Sonja (Tom) Birchard of Waialua, HI; four grandchildren; partner, James Marshall of Gig Harbor; siblings: Sylvia Hosie of Toledo, Or.; Lewis Schroeder, half brother and Mary Schroeder, half sister, both of North Bend, Or.
Memorials will be celebrated with friends and family members privately. In memory of Catherine’s life and in honor of the 24 years that Cathy lived free of breast cancer, her family requests that donations be made in her name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (www.komen.org).
Jason Kanoa Napoleon
Jason Kanoa Napoleon of Lihu’e, died at his home on January 11, 2004 at the age of 48.
A retail manager for Rent A Center, he was born in Lihu’e on March 7, 1955.
He is survived by his wife: Makalea Rose Napoleon, five stepchildren: Rick, Lisa, Joey, Jacob and Steven; two sisters: Cathy (Nobuhio) Matsuyoshi and Starley (Jerret) Medeiros; one brother: (Kaipo (Lovey) Napoleon and his stepfather: Shigeru Kiyabu; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life and scattering of ashes will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25, 1 p.m. at the Beach House Lawn, Koloa. Potluck to follow. Bring a lei and your favorite lawn chair. Casual attire is suggested.
